Tom "The Sheik" Hesketh at the sound board

at "The Phyrst" in State College, PA 1982

We met Tom Hesketh at a party gig in Harrisburg, PA in the fall of 1981, as I recall. We had been through three soundpersons since the departure of Jim Greene in the fall of 1980 with varying degrees of success so we were hopeful that Tom would bring excellence to the sound of the band. When Tom took control of the soundboard the Red Rose Cotillion live sound took it's final and most developed shape. Tom quickly demonstrated his organizational skills and excellent ear and we benefited tremendously from this talents. I always say that the soundperson is the invisible member of the group. They're rarely seen on stage and people only turn around to look at them when they hear feedback but they are the lens through which the sound of the band is focused. I have many, many tapes from Tom's time at the board and the result is a rich archive of fine live recordings of the band. Without Tom it wouldn't have happened with such excellence. Thanks Tom!!
