Smite
The Shepherd
The
hands from Heaven’s throne were laid upon the scapegoat’s sacred head
Transferring
the iniquities of His children unto His Beloved and
Only
Begotten
Blessed
altar and sacrifice
Prepared
One
and the same
Intercession
of our highest good
A
destined divine emissary
Led
out by His own hand into a desert of universal loneliness
Where
the priest of all prayer became broken bread and spilled-out wine
Elements
of innocence to breathe darkest secrets into ears of forgetfulness
A
womb of pain to give birth to a cry;
My
God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
The
question given for us
To
have and to hold
And
the answer thereof to see
That
the appointed Son of the Father’s love
Consumed
the cup of righteous wrath
When
He gave His sinless life
Upon
the transgressor’s tree
