This picture was taken in the summer of 1969 at the now defunct Greenwood Dairies ice cream parlor/restaurant in Langhorne/Penndel, PA. I'm the blonde kid on the right making the goofy face. I'm probably 10 years old. The kid sitting next to me was the son of a former college roommate of my mother. They were visiting us for a week. We were set up by our parents. We were told we were going out for ice cream but we didn't know that our parents ordered "Pig's Dinners" on the sly. A "Pig's Dinner" was a miniature pig's trough piled VERY high with multiple, varied flavored scoops of ice cream, syrups, gobs of whipped cream, cherries, etc. The deal was, if you could finish the whole thing, then you didn't have to pay for it - a gamble that I imagine the restaurant didn't |

often lose! My mother was ready with the camera when the Pig's Dinners arrived and caught our candid, unrehearsed responses. The crazy lady in the background was no one that we knew. She just happened to be in the booth next door and got into the picture. This begs the question... what the heck does this have to do with anyone's birthday? Answer: Nothing! I just have always loved this picture and thought that the mood matched the feel of the song very nicely. Plus, I think it's hilarious and I hope that it brightens your day better than the world news! - Jamie Thompson |
